23 Things Programme - A Brisbane City Council Library Initiative

The 23 Things programme is a potentially wonderful initiative by the Brisbane City Council for its staff. It is a learning and development programme whereby the staff have the ability to have access to, and learn about, the latest WEB 2.0 products such as blogs, wikis, RSS feeds, social bookmarking such as Youtube and Facebook, podcasts, vodcasts, mashups etc.

For a library environment, such as the one I work in, these new Internet-based products present an exciting new challenge. The time cannot be too far away when a fair proportion of our work will be completed using these elements. As more of our customers become Internet-savvy, our own knowledge base will need to increase as well, in order to meet these demands.

My hope for this programme, is to learn as much as possible about these products and to impart my knowledge to my fellow colleagues. I hope the rest of my staff find it rewarding in the way that I already have.
